When Sandy and Chafic at Degani brewed up the idea of a new café they knew Northland would be just their cup of tea. “I felt I would be able to build a good relationship with the people in the area. The people here are so down-to-earth.”
“Coffee-making is an art” says Chafic. “You need to be an artist to deliver a great cup of coffee.” Chafic loves the satisfaction of making coffee for his customers and seeing them take their first sip.
It’s the perfect blend really, Chafic loves making coffee and loves seeing his regular customers. “I love the conversations we have – and so much laughter!”
Chafic and Sandy’s favourite memory is how the locals welcomed them back, after they renovated the store and re-opened for business. Customers were keen to return for their regular coffee order, as well as Degani’s tasty cakes and sandwiches.
Chafic and Sandy are well grounded in the local community. They have been at Northland for ten years and have lots of regular customers now. Before opening up at Northland, Chafic owned independent cafés for the previous 25 years.
Chafic and Sandy love being part of the Northland community, and have become friends with many of the other store owners. When they get a chance for some shopping they head to JB Hifi and TK Maxx.
